Background of the Study

Toxic feminist ideologies have become a prominent force in contemporary debates around gender roles, marriage, and family structures. These ideologies, which often challenge traditional views on marriage and family, promote the idea that women should have complete autonomy and independence, sometimes at the expense of conventional marital norms. In Lagos, a vibrant urban center in Nigeria, toxic feminist ideologies have influenced public perceptions of marriage and the dynamics within modern relationships.

Lagos relationship counseling centers have become critical spaces where individuals and couples seek guidance on marital issues such as infidelity, communication breakdowns, and gender expectations. This study will evaluate the influence of toxic feminist ideologies on the dynamics of modern Nigerian marriages, with a particular focus on how these ideologies are addressed within Lagos relationship counseling practices. The study aims to understand how toxic feminist thought impacts marital relationships and whether counseling centers in Lagos are adapting to these changing dynamics.

Statement of the Problem

While the rise of toxic feminism has been linked to shifts in gender roles and marriage expectations, its impact on marital dynamics within Nigerian relationships remains underexplored. This study seeks to evaluate how toxic feminist ideologies influence marriage dynamics and how Lagos relationship counseling centers respond to these challenges in their counseling practices.

To assess how Lagos relationship counseling centers address the challenges posed by toxic feminism in their counseling services.

To explore the broader social and cultural implications of toxic feminist ideologies on marital relationships in Lagos.

How do toxic feminist ideologies affect societal perceptions of marriage and family life in Lagos?

Significance of the Study

This study is significant as it will shed light on the impact of toxic feminist ideologies on marital relationships in Lagos, one of Nigeria’s largest and most diverse urban centers. Understanding how these ideologies affect modern marriages will help marriage counselors, social workers, and policymakers develop more effective strategies to support couples in navigating contemporary marital challenges. The findings will also contribute to the broader discourse on gender equality and marriage in Nigeria.

Scope and Limitation of the Study

The study will focus on relationship counseling centers in Lagos and how they address the influence of toxic feminist ideologies on marital dynamics. The research will be limited to examining counseling practices and the social implications of toxic feminism within urban Nigerian marriages. It will not address the experiences of couples outside Lagos or those in non-urban settings.
